The West Australian Article

A debut in the great outdoors

"Always had a roof above me, always paid the rent
But I've never set foot inside a test.
Can't build a fire to save my life,
I lied about being the outdoor type."

The Outdoor Type, penned by Aussie songwriter Tom Morgan and an early 90s indie hit for The Lemonheads, became my theme son the moment a tourism agent raise the prospect of an adventure tour through Karijini National Park.

As I was heading up to Port Hedland for work, why don't I make it worth my while and, you know, check out some gorges, stay in the Karijini Eco Resort, get a bit of the great outdoors in the Pilbura. Why not?

Well, for starters, I've never abseiled, don't know how to start a fire with sticks and my experience with tents doesn't extend beyond the circus.
